Haggis

Jim ...
Cassie, the bride, has asked me to read in the wedding
service, which is fine, but Jon asked me to be in
charge of the haggis. Yes, I said haggis--don't most
weddings have haggis? Yours will, right? ;-) Yup,
since it is highland rites plus, we will leave the
church, following a piper a few blocks to the University Club. I will bear the haggis, behind the piper, or, will assume my haggis duties upon arrival at the club. I am not sure which. Then, once inside
and the eating portion begans, I will stand and recite bits of "To a Haggis" by Robert Burns. I had memorized it in Scots, but the bride--quite rightly--pointed out that no one there will understand
Scots (who doesn't know what "tharim" is?! ;-), and, that the poem was a bit long for her taste (it is not _that_ long). SO, I translated it, cut out a few stanzas, and tried to keep both the humor and feeling.
